FAQ for Mid-Pacific Institute After-School Strings Program

Can my child sign up even if they do not attend MPI?

Yes, they can!  Please find the registration link here.

What are the dates, times, and location of the classes?

Beginning Strings (grades K-5) meets Wednesdays 2:30-3:15pm

Intermediate Strings (grades 1-6) meets Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00pm

Advanced Strings (grades 1-6) meets Wednesdays from 4:00-4:45pm

All classes are held at the MPI Elementary Campus in the Dining Hall.

How often should my child practice?

I recommend that your child practices six days/week if possible, even if it is just for 10 minutes a day.  For beginners, I strongly recommend 10-30 minutes per day if you want to see improvement.  For older and more advanced students, I recommend 30-60 minutes per day.

This way, the student can incorporate what was learned in group class INDIVIDUALLY at home, with the parent assisting, supporting and guiding the process.

Will there be a concert where I can see my child perform in a concert on stage with an audience?

Yes!! They will perform in Bakken Auditorium on Friday, May 11 at 3:30pm

What book will you use to teach from?

Depending on the class and level, we will use Suzuki Method Volume One for Violin, and for a mixed group class (violin, viola, cello), we will use Essential Elements Book One. For Beginning Strings, we learn by ear at first in order to master the technical fundamentals.
